What Caused the Ambulnz Data Breach?

The Ambulnz data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Ambulnz’s filing with the Attorney General of California provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Ambulnz also posted a website notice describing the incident.

According to these sources, on April 22, 2024, Ambulnz was notified of unusual activity within its IT network. In response, Ambulnz secured its systems, notified law enforcement and then launched an investigation to learn more about the incident.

Through this investigation, Ambulnz learned that an unauthorized party was able to access its computer network between April 21, 2024 and April 22, 2024. During this time, the unauthorized party accessed and downloaded certain files. On May 7, 2024, Ambulnz learned that some of these files contained confidential patient information. Those affected include individuals who were transported by Ambulnz, as well as patients of the following healthcare systems: Jefferson Health, Main Line Health, Mount Sinai Health System, and UCHealth.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Ambulnz reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, address, and medical information.

Between June 21, 2023 and August 13, 2024, Ambulnz sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
