When we visit the doctor, we expect that he will properly diagnose the illness and provide the correct treatment. Unfortunately, this was not the case for a Chicago woman. The woman has filed a lawsuit in Cook County, alleging that her doctor wrongly diagnosed her condition, and as a result, underwent unnecessary hernia surgery. The lawsuit names Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Mercy IPA, and the doctor and is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000. Misdiagnosis Misdiagnosis, and other medical mistakes, occurs with alarming frequency. According to the CDC, medical mistakes are now the third leading cause of death in the United States.
