Safety Advisory and Recall for Ford and Lincoln Vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently issued a press release regarding a safety advisory for certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Ford Motor Company has recalled approximately 390,000 Ford Fiesta, Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ automobiles, and the NHTSA wants to advise owners to get the suggested repair as soon as possible. Apparently, it is possible for defective door latches in these vehicles to prevent the doors from completely closing. This means that car doors can open unexpectedly while the automobiles are moving, putting drivers and passengers in great danger.

- 2012-2014 Ford Fiestas
- All model year 2013 Ford Fusions
- All model year 2013 Lincoln MKZ’s
- Certain model year 2014 Ford Fusions

What to do if Your Vehicle is Under Recall
If your Ford or Lincoln vehicle is one of the models currently being recalled by Ford Motor Company, the NHTSA has important safety information you need to know. First, always buckle up, for every trip. Also, make sure everybody in your vehicle is buckled up. If you have any difficulty getting your car door to latch while trying to shut the door, do not drive the vehicle. It doesn’t matter if the door appears to have latched. It is not safe. Don’t try to shut the door using any kind of rope or tying device either. Have the vehicle towed to a dealership. Do not drive it. If the door does open while the vehicle is moving, pull over immediately and have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealer. Do not attempt to shut the door while the car is moving or attempt to continue driving the vehicle.
Check Your Vehicle’s Recall Status
If you’re not sure if your car is currently under recall, you can check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) online at www.safercar.gov/vin. Additionally, keep your eye out for any mail from the vehicle’s manufacturer. Last year, we saw unprecedented numbers of safety recalls. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and get the vehicle to a dealership for repairs as soon as possible.
